We’re back with Fan Friday and this week we are interviewing freshgrass from the OMDU North American community. Freshgrass recently announced that he has made it all the way up to Level 40, the highest level available in the current phase 2 beta build after just a matter of weeks. Quite an achievement and dedication to the Orc slayin’ cause!

Seeing as you have probably encountered him on matchmaking, lets find out a bit more about him!

    The Basics

    Name: Brent

    Age: 26

    Home Town: Detroit, MI

    Questions

    • What do you do by day?

I’m supposedly a law student when I’m not no-lifing OMDU, hah!

    • What are your hobbies and interests?

Gaming, board gaming, reading, and recently I’ve started listening to audio books while driving around, doing household chores, working out, or really any time my ears are free for it (my current big recommendations are The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie – narrated by Steven Pacey and The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch – narrated by Michael Page).  My interests are most things, I suppose.

    • Are you engrossed in any TV series at the moment?

House of Cards, Game of Thrones, and Orange is the New Black have all kept me interested through their respective seasons, and I’m looking forward to the next season of Attack on Titan.  I’ve recently started working my way through Frasier, which I hated when I was younger, but am now enjoying immensely.  I often go back and revisit episodes of King of the Hill and American Dad when I can’t find anything else to watch.

    • What type of music do you like to listen to?

I don’t know if I have a specific type, but some favorites would include Modest Mouse, The National, Yeasayer, St. Vincent, The Decemberists, Lana Del Rey, and Portugal, the Man.  Oh, can’t forget Hall & Oates!

    • Aside from OMD, what other games do you like to play?

I’m a huge fan of the Borderlands franchise, every once in awhile I revisit Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and I will play pretty much any ARPG you put in front of me (though I tend to get burned out on games falling under this description pretty quickly).  Prior to OMDU, I’ve never really gotten super involved in any MOBA’s or MOBA-esque games.

    • How did you discover OMD?

I think it was on sale on Steam? I’ve always been a fan of tower defense games and instantly fell in love with the fresh and humorous take on the genre.

*Nervous laughter* Way too much and at the expense of friends, family, school, sleep, food, exercise, and my poor neglected dog…

    • With all your game-time, in your opinion what are the top 3 most important changes you would like to see made to OMDU?

Hmm… in no particular order:  (a) I’d like to see some changes to the current meta of steady soldier minion spam, either by giving us more and better ways to effectively respond to them, or by making other minion types more appealing (gnoll hunters need to be terrifying again!).

    (b) Matchmaking is particularly difficult to address with the game being in closed beta, and I know there are some fixes in the works.  Realistically, I’d like to see pre-made groups being limited to three (or even two!) players for the time being.  I’ve often found myself faced with choosing between joining a pubstomping pre-made or solo queuing and getting constantly destroyed by that same pre-made, which really isn’t a choice at all.

    (c)  (I only include this because the question asked for three) I want to be very careful to not be that player who burns through content at an insane speed and then makes unreasonable demands on the devs for new content, but after 400 some wins, Cliffside Clash is getting kind of old. 😛

    • We have to ask, which hero do you think is most OP and why?

Sorceress, Master, and Stinkeye are all hideously overpowered when played on offense with their current generic weaver tree.  Once this is addressed (which it will be soon) I don’t know that there will be a “most OP”.  We’ll see what the next patch brings.

    • What are your top tips for leveling up quickly?

Honestly?  Steamroll the other team as hard and fast as possible for that sweet, sweet bonus exp! PUT THE FEAR IN THEM AND NEVER RELENT.  Haha.  Did I mention not sleeping?

    Shout Out

    • Is there anything you would like to say to all the OMD fans out there right now?

Get your hands on a beta key and play OMDU!  Once you do, make sure to keep your eyes on chat and the minimap, communicate effectively, and be patient with your fellow players (something I still struggle with!).  Listen to more experienced players, learn how to place barricades, and for the love of god don’t spam spike traps on wave 25!  Most importantly, have fun!

    Thanks for taking part freshgrass!
Orcs Must Die! Unchained Phase 2 launches for EU tomorrow!

The news the EU community has been looking forward to is now here. EU community manager SiS has announced that the phase 2 patch for Orcs Must Die! Unchained will be launching tomorrow!

There has been alot of discussion about the delay in getting this patch out for the EU community, it was originally anticipated to come out sooner. However, we must bear in mind that there is such a huuuuge number of changes in this patch. It is a major release with substantial changes that Gameforge have needed to integrate onto their own systems. Including a completely re-worked game economy model. Please remember the almighty patch notes, Gameforge have been working very hard to integrate these as fast as possible.

Waiting sucks. However we can assure you that phase 2 is definitely worth the wait, and I’m sure future patches will come out even faster now that we are passed this larger hurdle.

    Friends List & Wipe

One important thing to know is that there WILL be an account wipe for all EU players once Phase 2 lands. This means everything will be reset including your skulls. Any coin or skins that you have purchased or unlocked by means of promotions will remain on your account, however. It is also worth noting that your friends list will be wiped too, so be sure to note down the names of all your friends so that you can add them back again.

Enjoy phase 2 tomorrow and see you in-game!
