It may have been a long time coming but Robot Entertainment have today soft launched Hero Academy on Android devices! This is obviously fantastic news for those with Android devices who have eagerly been awaiting to play the game on the move with their mobile devices.
Playing Hero Academy on Android is exactly the same as playing on your PC or Mac, you can login with your same account details and you can play your games any time anywhere! The game is available for download via the Google Play store on the link below:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.robotentertainment.heroacademy
One thing to bear in mind though, is that as Android covers a vast array of different devices on dis-similar hardware, this means that unfortunately Hero Academy is not compatible on all Android devices. A list of compatible devices can be found on Robot’s website. However for readers reference the list of compatible devices is as below:
Acer Iconia Tab Archos 101 Titanium Archos 80 Platinum ASUS Google Nexus 7 ASUS Transformer ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity ASUS Transformer Prime HTC Droid DNA HTC EVO 4G LTE HTC One HTC One S HTC One V HTC One X LG Google Nexus 4 LG Optimus F3 LG Optimus G LG Optimus L5 II LG Optimus L7 II LG Optimus L9 Motorola Droid 3 Motorola Droid 4 Motorola Droid RAZR Motorola Droid RAZR HD Motorola XOOM Motorola XOOM 2 NOOK HD NOOK HD+ Samsung Galaxy Note Samsung Galaxy Note II Samsung Galaxy S2 Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung Galaxy S4 Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1″ Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7″ Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus Samsung Google Nexus 10 Dean07 Oct 20135725
Great news for Hero Academy players using Apple’s latest and greatest iOS 7 on their iPhones and iPads. Robot Entertainment has just released their latest update for Hero Academy that fixes issues that some players experienced having updated to iOS 7 since its recent release. Also featured in the update is support for widescreen 16:9.
There are no new features affecting the game-play I’m afraid. But this much needed update keeps things smooth sailing on the latest and greatest devices. The update should be available to download now from iTunes, but it may take a little longer to reach some regions so if you don’t see it quite yet keep checking back!

A little while ago REF asked OMD2 fans to nominate their favourite OMD2 workshop mods so that we could find out what the fan favourite is. Well the results are in and after number crunching it was Nananea’s Hawkeye Archers | Prepared for EVERYTHING mod that came out on top!

Yes it was these pink shade wearing archers that proved most popular amongst fans. These souped up archers can shoot not only fire arrows but poison, chain lightning, chill + freeze, or fear arrows all depending on your preference or mood! They are extra effective with additional health as well.Be sure to check out the fan favourite by downloading the mod and trying it out for yourself. Congratulations Nananea!
Here is the lowdown on the changes Nananea has made with this mod:
- 5 exclusive unique upgrades: Fire, Poison, Chain Lightning, Chill + Freeze, and Fearing arrows.
- Added the passive health regeneration unique into the base archer.
- Added the reduced money cost upgrades into the base archer.
- Added a small particle over each Archer’s head so they are easy to distinguish in co-op!
- Custom icon and silly helmet texture change.
Prizes
Nananea wins an awesome OMD T-Shirt, signed copy of the OMD prequel comic, and a Robot Entertainment hat. We hope you enjoyed your prizes! These are no doubt well deserved with all the hard work that Nananea puts into all her excellent mods :). Congratulations again!
And a little something for a lucky nominator…
We also said that we would offer a lucky person who takes the time to nominate someones workshop mod a chance to win some sweet prizes too. That lucky person is Markus Holm from Norway. He nominated Nananea’s Sapper Ballista | Add some BANG to your Ballistas mod. For taking the time to do that he has and OMD T-shirt, signed OMD prequel comic and a Robot Entertainment hat on the way to him as well! Congratulations!

Great news for avid Robot Entertainment forum goers! The bots have now launched their brand new website and forums. The new website takes a more simplistic approach and makes it easier for people to find out about Robot games, the studio and get support information. The new website is squeaky clean and works on all types of devices.
The forums receiving a big upgrade, in fact, the forums are brand new! Running on the latest and greatest VBulletin software means they are faster and work much better on mobile devices than the previous forums. Unfortunately old forum posts will not be carried over to the new forums. However, a link to the old archived forums will be made available in due course so fans can still look back at their old posts. Fans can also copy important threads to the new forums as needed.
You can login to the new forums with your existing RobotEntertainent.com login credentials so go ahead and check out the new forums and the shiny new website at:

Many gamers will have heard that for a while Microsoft has been aiming to replace their currency for Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live from Microsoft Points to real local currency. Ie. Dollars, Euros and Pounds Sterling, or what ever your local currency is. In doing this the Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live services will need to make the switch over. This is scheduled to be be kicking off on August 22nd.
However, the bad news is that Games for Windows Live will not be making the transition to local currency and as such, Microsoft is infact closing the GFWL service all together. Infact as of just August 22nd the Games for Windows Live Store will be closed to new purchases of any kind. This means that no additional copies of Age of Empires Online or any DLC will be available via this store from August 22nd. It would seem that any DLC purchased through Steam would also not be available based on a now removed article on the AOE-O support website as reported by Age of Empires Online Heaven. Although the Steam issue is still awaiting official confirmation.
The bad news continues I’m afraid. While existing players will be able to continue to play Age of Empires Online beyond the August 22nd cut of date, the game will be shuttered completely on July 1st 2014 when the entire GFWL system will be taken offline.
This is of course very sad news for the co-developed Robot Entertainment and Gas Powered Games title. Many AOE-O fans are incredibly disappointed by the closure news and discussions are aplenty on the official forums. According to a recent article on Gamasutra there was another “post-mortem” conducted on Age of Empires Online by its Executive Producer, Kevin Perry at GDC 2013 just recently. The presentation was titled “F2P the wrong way” indicated that there was not enough content at launch, and by the time they were rolling out new content the efforts unfortunately did not result in bigger enough population boosts. As a result development was halted in January earlier this year.
I would say that now would be the time to spend any Microsoft Points you were thinking of spending on AOE-O before August 22nd. However, as it seems the game will be closing entirely in July 2014 this will no doubt be a quandary for many players.
Stay tuned for REF for further updates on this sad situation.
