If you’ve just picked up Unchained via one of the Founders Packs you’ll no doubt want to get stuck into the action quickly. There is a basic tutorial section in the game but to get down to the nitty gritty Juicy has kindly stepped up to create an OMDU alpha guide!

Split into chapters Juicy’s guide covers a number of things from the interface, deck building and playing the game. The first three chapters are now available to view online. These are:

    1. Interface
    2. How to play
    3. Playing the game

More chapters will be added soon so keep checking back! You can find the how to guide by expanding the OMDU option in the menu to the left. Checking out the guides is also a great way to learn more about the game in detail if you do not already have alpha access.

RoyalFino has also stepped in to assist, compiling this excellent deck building video. Find out about some of the traps and minions Royal takes into battle. There is a ton of detail in this video and it is well worth watching!

    Focus On: Smolder

The next hero of the Unchained this week looked at the fiery Smolder. She is a ranged hero with some special abilities. Needless to say all of her attacks are fire based, with her primary attack being Fireball. This is a chargeable attack, clicking the mouse button quickly lets her fire small fireballs which travel fast and with long range. By holding the button she can charge her fireball making it even stronger and more effective against groups of enemies, but the fireball does travel slower with more limited range and can take some practice to land hits. It is worth noting that Smolder cannot run and charge her fireball, only standing still or walking.

Her other secondary attack is called Flame breath which is reasonably self explanatory. Indeed when used Smolder breathes a cone of fire against enemies in front of her. This attack uses mana and is very effective against enemies grouped together such as Orcs.

    Smolder demonstrates her Flame Breath

On the abilities front her primary called Fire Form enables Smolder to literally burst into flames and she becomes invincible to all forms of fire damage. In this form any enemy minion or hero that comes close to Smolder takes fire damage. This is a useful ability to use when things are looking bad because should she die whilst in her fire form she will cause a deadly explosion, damaging anyone near by.

Her other ability called Ignite lets her power up anything that is already on fire to cause even more damage. Note that enemies have to already be on fire for this to work.

Finally Smolder enjoys a good passive ability, when she dies she is able to rise from the ashes again quickly so she can re-join the fight albeit with only a small portion of health and mana. Combined with her fire form explosion, killing Smolder can be tricky. Her passive ability has a long cool-down time once used.

Smolder’s abilities and weapons place her squarely in the defender grouping. She is great at taking out minions that are bunched together which is great especially in the early-mid game. Her skills do not take long to master which also makes her a good character to play with for new players.
